Heart

Anahata · ah-nah-HAH-tah

The unstruck sound. Anahata is compassion, grief, gratitude, and the courage to stay open.

Anahata means the unstruck — the sound that exists before two things collide. The heart chakra is air: breath, space, relationship. It is where we give and receive, forgive, and let ourselves be moved. A balanced heart is not endless softness; it is a gate that can open and close with wisdom. We play 639 Hz here, a bowl resting on or just in front of the sternum, so the ribcage remembers it is a cage that is allowed to breathe. Green is the color of this center because love, like a forest, repairs itself when it is given time and air.

The frequency

639 Hz is the frequency of connection — it is used to restore harmony in relationships, including the one with yourself.

Location: Center of the chest, lungs, arms, and the space of the heart. Seed sound: YAM.

A healthy heart

  • You can give without disappearing, and receive without keeping score.
  • Grief is allowed to move through. You do not skip it or build a house in it.
  • Forgiveness is possible — not as a performance, but as a loosening.
  • Breath is full. The chest is not armored. A deep inhale feels available.
  • You feel connected: to people, to animals, to the living world, to your own chest.

When it is out of balance

  • Isolation dressed as independence, or clinging dressed as love.
  • Jealousy, bitterness, or a ledger of old wounds you cannot put down.
  • Codependency: other people's weather becomes your only climate.
  • An armored chest, shallow breath, or a heart that will not let anyone near.
  • Compassion fatigue — giving until there is no one left at home.

How to balance

  1. 1Play 639 Hz at the sternum. Place a hand on the chest. Let the exhale be longer than the inhale.
  2. 2Hold Padma (lotus) Mudra at the heart and chant YAM.
  3. 3Practice a heart opener — Bridge, Cobra, or a simple supported backbend.
  4. 4Eat green foods. Sit under a tree. Write a letter you may never send.
  5. 5Offer one true kindness and receive one, even if receiving is the harder yoga.
